if by any reason we are unable to do ekadasi, or have mistakingly broken it, is it possible to do it the following day? Will krishna be satisfied?

PAMHO.
It is not recommended that one fasts on dwadashi. If ekadasi cannot be followed for any reason, then one has to do nirjala - wihtout even water on the day of pandava nirjala ekadasi.
