Why is the Hare Krishna mantra so special?

Lord Krsna says in Bhagavad-gita (7.8), pranavah sarva-vedesu: ‘In all the Vedic mantras, I am represented by pranava, or omkara.’ Thus chanting of the Vedic mantras beginning with omkara is directly chanting of Krsna’s name. There is no difference. Whether one chants omkara or addresses the Lord as ‘Krsna’, the meaning is the same, but Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has recommended that in this age one chant the Hare Krsna mantra (harer nama eva kevalam). Although there is no difference between Hare Krsna and the Vedic mantras beginning with omkara, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the leader of the spiritual movement for this age, has recommended that one chant Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare. Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.

The hand and body is created all at a time. It is not that the body is created first and then the hand is created. Our relation with Krishna is like the hand and the body. Therefore, Krishna and we, both are eternal, and there is no history of eternity. It has no beginning and no end. Actually we are eternal family members of the Lord, but due to our misuse of independence we have now forgotten our eternal relationship with Krishna, exactly like a man who is mad forgets his family relationship and loiters in the street.

Krishna is our most intimate master, friend, father or son and object of conjugal love. Forgetting Krishna we have created so many objects of questions and answers but none of them are able to give us complete satisfaction. Any thing except Krishna can give us temporary satisfaction only.

Because Krishna is Absolute, there is no difference between His Name, form, quality, etc. and our intimate relation with Krishna can be confidentially revived by talking, hearing, or remembering about Him. Therefore when we are in the perfect stage of devotional service, we can know our eternal relation with Krishna.

Gokula.

  The Vedic literatures give further histories of his appearances over millions and billions of years. In the Fourth Chapter of

Bhagavad-gita,

  Krishna states that He can remember instructing the lessons of the Bhagavad-gitasome millions of years ago to the sun-god,

Vivasvan,

  because He possesses unlimited knowledge, Krishna has a memory that is boundless.

Krishna, the meaning of the word in Sanskrit is all-attractive, He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, also called as God of Gods. In other words, Krishna is the Godhead because He is all-attractive. From practical experience we can observe that one is attractive due to (1) wealth, (2) power, (3) fame, (4) beauty, (5) wisdom and (6) renunciation. One who is in possession of all six of these opulences at the same time and who possesses them to an unlimited degree is understood to be the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
