Why do you need an altar?

Chanting the holy name is the highest form of worship. Altar helps us in this divine process of worshiping the supreme.
An altar reminds us that there is God.
Japa and kirtana are more effective when done before an altar.
Altar helps us connect to supreme personality of Godhead.

An altar helps to remind us to stop during our hectic and buzy lives, to take time to remind ourself that we are spirit soul, part and parsel of Krishna.
Altar can be a place to talk to Krishna and listen to Him.
Altar helps us to stop with our everyday tasks and to take time to nourish our souls.

Altar is an oasis of silence and peace, a place of spiritual comfort and inspiration.
Altar helps us focus our mind on holy name.
We should go to temple on a regular basis to associate with devotees. However, for most of us it is not practical to go to temple daily. Daily seva is most easily conducted at an altar at home. In that sense, a home altar is a more personal place of worship.
An altar at home helps us connect to Krishna during our everyday lives.
Thus an altar helps us to reinforce Krishna consciousness into everyday lives.
